Are We Mostly Empty Space?
On average, 87 percent of the atoms in the body are hydrogen or oxygen. Carbon (6), hydrogen (1), nitrogen (5), and oxygen (8) together account for 99 percent of the atoms in a person. Our bodies are 60% water or H2O. The two Hydrogen atoms have one electron and the Oxygen atom has eight. To illustrate: If an atom’s Proton was the size of a golf ball and was located at the mid-point of a football field the electrons would be circling the proton at a distance equivalent to the endzones. Atoms are mostly space so our bodies are mostly space (over 99% space). This does not take into account that there is space between atoms and molecules.
My thinking is that idea the notion we are solid is an illusion. This notion is created by the electrons that are moving so fast that they provide something like a force field (not my area of expertise).
